Cocamidopropylhydroxysultaine is een zwitterionische oppervlakteactieve stof met uitstekende stabiliteit onder zure en alkalische omstandigheden, die respectievelijk kationische en anionische eigenschappen vertoont. CHSB is niet-toxisch, minder irriterend, gemakkelijk oplosbaar in water, stabiel in zuur en alkali, schuimt beter, heeft een sterke reinigende werking en beschikt over uitstekende verdikkings-, verzachtings-, bacteriedodende, antistatische en hardwaterbestendige eigenschappen. Het kan de verzachting, conditionering en stabiliteit bij lage temperaturen van wasproducten aanzienlijk verbeteren.

Cocamidopropylhydroxysultaine wordt veel gebruikt in shampoos en douchegels van gemiddelde en hoge kwaliteit; het is het hoofdbestanddeel van milde babyshampoos, babybadschuim en babyhuidverzorgingsproducten; het is een uitstekende verzachtende conditioner in haar- en huidverzorgingsproducten; het kan ook worden gebruikt als reinigingsmiddel, bevochtigingsmiddel, verdikkingsmiddel, antistatisch middel en bacteriedodend middel, enz.
